Design Course: The power of colour in branding

What colour is your brand? What’s the difference between orange, green and red? What associations do people have with these colour. This video (which is also a viral ad!) answers some of these questions and provides good examples.

DESIGN PROJECT 1:  Label design

You have been tasked with creating a series of colourful lables for a new energy drink that promises different things to diffferent age groups. It’s the same sugar, water and caffeine but advertising adds some magical properties. Like snakeoil salesmen of the past, modern advertisers convince consumers to buy things they don’t really need by stimulating their senses, imaginations and hopes.

Along with Monday’s lesson, check the “pick up” folder for the assignment and any other instructions you’ll need.

Red Bull video – is this a show or … an ad? What makes it appealing to the target demographic? Would you be likely to try the drink after watching this video? What kinds of associations do you have with the product (given the musical choices, imagery, sounds – not to mention the media format)? Red Bull IS …?
